Making vanilla from scratch was the easiest recipe I have ever tried and it turned out ahh-mazing!
Not to mention my vanilla gifts had a huge wow factor and I looked liked some super awesome, gift giving extraordinaire! Everyone asked how I made the vanilla and were shocked that all it took was vanilla beans and vodka. Oh boy, did the ‘magic ingredient’ jokes start flying then.Directions
- You will need a 1.5 liter bottle of cheap vodka and some vanilla beans.
- Slice vanilla beans in half and drop into the vodka bottle.
- Stick the bottle into a dark cupboard for 6-8 weeks to infuse.

My first batch was carefully planned out and I made it 8 weeks ahead of time in order to let the vanilla infused vodka turn into the most amazing vanilla extract there is on the planet.
However, I have since found out that you can make homemade vanilla in as little as a week if you very, very, carefully heat up the vodka and pour it over the vanilla beans as described in this recipe.

Vanilla Tips and Tricks
- After you gift this batch of vanilla, you can reuse the vanilla beans for several more batches. Just buy some more vodka and refill the bottle full of vanilla beans, which will drop the price of this amazing gift even further!!
- If you want the lovely vanilla bean flecks in your homemade ice cream or other goodies, just use a straw to pull out one of the vanilla beans out of the vodka and then scrape the inside of the vanilla bean to add to your recipe. Easy peasy!
- Rum will also work if you can’t get vodka.
- Want to mail some vanilla to friends? It must mailed using ground transportation because the vanilla is flammable.
Just a warning… your friends and family will be returning their empty vanilla bottles, because they want refills!!
