I am sure you have noticed that I have Christmas on my brain with all my recent posts, 7 secrets to a spectacular Christmas, 18 frugal gift ideas, and Gift Ideas for the Book Lover. Lately, I have been desiring a simple Christmas where giving is full of joy and laughter, without having all the bills follow you into the New Year. I am returning to making simple gifts and cutting back on my spending. A frugal Christmas takes a lot of planning ahead, since you are spending more in time making your gifts than in money, which is a fair trade off for not overspending this holiday season.

When my friend, JoAnn, mentioned her new book, Christmas with Kids, was about making amazing family memories and keeping Christmas simple, I jumped at the chance to review the book. I loved it! 13 bloggers have collaborated together on a mission to make Christmas memories through crafts, activities, and recipes, instead of having the focus on buying gifts and spending a lot of money, which I appreciate very much. While, I don’t have children of my own, there are several creative crafts for younger kids. I think I will make the matching Christmas Tree Craft with my two year old niece. I adore homemade ornaments and usually crochet ornaments to hand out to friends, but haven’t been crocheting much recently. However, the idea on making pasta ornaments might save the day and looks like a date with my older niece.

Decorating is not my strength, but I always enjoy seeing the beautiful work that other people have done to make their houses look pretty. In Christmas with Kids, there are two super easy, lovely tutorials for making burlap Christmas trees and a chalkboard countdown plaque which bring the festive look to your home on a budget!

And then there were the recipes. Oh my goodness, the pictures looked so good, I could almost taste them. Yet, the recipes were simply made without a lot of time spent on complicated preparations and with easy to find ingredients.
