A remarkable budget is a consistent budget
Save time and money with my best-selling resources in Complete Change Your Finances Bundle.
Since consistency with budgeting has been a struggle for me too, I decided to make a budgeting schedule in order to keep on track with it.
Here is my ideal plan (and just so you know, it doesn’t always happen like this– just being real:-), but now that I have my own checklist it makes it much easier to actually be consistent every month!
Daily – write down expenses in the notebook when I get home. (5 minutes)
Weekly – set aside 30 minutes to work on the budget. This is usually enough time to review my budget and make sure I am on track with my spending or enter my expenses into my budgeting software. (30 minutes)
Monthly – during the last week of the month and/or first week of the next month.
- Close out this month’s budget- see if there is any money I didn’t spend and can transfer to savings as extra money towards my current money dream. (15-30 minutes)
- Write down my next month’s budget and any foreseen unique expenses. (15 minutes)
- Meet with my husband and discuss next month’s budget. (5-15 minutes)
**If a surprise expense comes up, I may have a mid-month budget meeting where I talk to my husband again so we can juggle funds around.
I will tell you from LOTS of personal experience, if I can get on and stay on a schedule like this,
- the budget runs so much smoother,
- I am less likely to overspend,
- I am way more likely to have extra money in my budget to fund my money dreams,
- My budget is much more manageable,
- Money stress is down considerably,
- And I don’t have a huge mess to deal with.
Who doesn’t want all that?
