How do you change your mindset on saving?
Save time and money with my best-selling resources in Complete Change Your Finances Bundle.
Changing my mindset about saving (and money in general) has been the biggest catalyst to seeing growth in my savings. Take these lessons I have learned to heart, so you don’t have to spend as much time as I did learning them!!
Savings must be a priority for you
Just because you don’t have much money doesn’t give you a pass on saving until you are making more. If you don’t build your savings muscle now, when you are earning more, you still won’t save.
Find a powerful reason to save
Mine was seeing my husband graduate without taking any out more student loans, which turned into paying cash for the entirety of his education. Your reason needs to be strong enough to motivate you as you cut expenses and delay gratification.
Change your words
How many times do you tell yourself that I can’t save money? Well guess what, you are right! Instead, tell yourself that you CAN save money!
Look for any opportunity to save money and don’t discredit if it is a very small amount. Those small amounts really do add up over time!!
Make your goals small
I know, you would really like to be able to put save money quickly, but it may not be possible right now. Instead of giving up, make your savings goals much smaller and more attainable. For example, don’t aim for $1,000 as your emergency fund, aim for $100.
Track your savings
Wowza! You won’t believe how much you save when you start tracking how much you can put into savings each month! Your attitude will change dramatically!
I tried this experiment because I was soo discouraged. No matter what I did, it didn’t seem to result in lasting savings. Money would come in and go out.
Yet, seeing the numbers grow each month as I tracked my savings was huge!! My motivation went through the roof as I found new ways to trim costs and searched out new opportunities to make more money.
