First I want to thank Charissa for inviting me into her space here at Change Your Finances. I’m always inspired by what’s going on in this online space and feel honored to be here.
Today I want to share with you part of my family’s journey. Like all families our journey has had quite a few twists and turns and it’s really not like I thought it would be when we started this journey 25 years ago.
I had a very unrealistic view of what being an adult meant when we first married. I think most young people do. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just because we don’t really see adult hardships as children.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the life that we have. It’s a life that has been created by the choices we’ve made and some choices that have been made for us.
But it’s different than I envisioned it would be.
One thing that has shaped our family life is that we experienced a four year season of unemployment, from 2008-2012. It’s seems unbelievable just writing that, but we not only survived that time but we thrived during that time.

It was then the economy crashed and churches were pulling in the financial reins and not hiring unless it was absolutely necessary.
From the spring of 2008 until the spring of 2012, my husband worked three part-time jobs to support our family while he continued looking for a full-time job.
While I don’t wish that struggle on anyone and certainly would not like to have another four years of unemployment, I don’t regret that time because we learned so much from it.
