Plan your splurges
There I said it. I want you to spend money.
I promise it will add more enjoyment to your spending when you plan out how much money you’re going to have in your splurge fund.
And get rid of the guilt and frustration with yourself.
Remember you’re in charge of your budget and what amounts go in each category.
First. Decide how much money you want to be in the ‘treat yourself’ category.
If you’re married, now’s a really good time to have a conversation with your spouse and figure out a reasonable amount for both of you to spend without guilt.
And in my case, that’s money that doesn’t even need to be tracked.
Second. Take out this amount in CASH.
I love using a cash envelope wallet to seperate my fun money from the grocery money, so I can see exactly how much I’ve spent and what’s left.
Cash allows you to spend with purpose. You will be more thoughtful about what you buy when you hand over hard earned money, $20 at a time.
Third. Spend the money you set aside for impulse shopping and enjoy using the money.
Guilt isn’t allowed and if it does come up, remind yourself that you have planned for this amount to go towards impulse shopping.
When you have spent all the money in your impulse fund, then you’ll just have to wait until next month when you can replenish your funds.
As God’s stewards of money, we’re to save for the future, spend wisely, be generous, and enjoy the fruits of our labor- He gives us the ability to enjoy the finances He’s blessed us with.
Now you can enjoy the purchase when the impulse strikes. And you have the money to splurge on something that makes you happy without the guilt.

Instead of flipping through the article about Princess Kate’s expecting another baby and waiting for your turn, there’s time to ask yourself a simple question.
Is this purchase necessary? Or can I delay the purchase right now and add what I would have spent to reach my money dream even faster?
