This lesson was the most surprising one that I learned from being debt free.
4. Just because you are debt free, doesn’t mean all the sudden you will have lots of money in the bank
I thought that my financial situation would dramatically change overnight and I would have all this money in the bank right away.
Honestly, money still has been tight for most of the last seven years, but without as much stress, due to cash flowing my husband’s education.
We have still been able to take some nice, inexpensive vacations and have a comfortable life – not glamorous by any means.
But the frugal lessons learned over the tight years, have just cemented my ability to follow a budget successfully and have shown the importance of telling your money where to go every single month.
It is definitely a positive thing to continue laying the strong foundation of handling money well so that when my income does increase, I will continue to make wise decisions.
5. It is possible to have and reach really big money dreams
Paying off all my debt in 22 months – with 8 months of really busting it – along with living the last 7 years debt free have totally proved that it was possible to have and reach big money dreams – you just need to work hard, budget, and save up the money.
Due largely to being debt free, my husband will be graduating in just a couple of months with zero student loans – seriously! This has been a HUGE money dream of mine and I am so thankful that it is happening.
Right now, I am working on saving up money to buy a new car – for cash! The other dream on the horizon is to save up enough money to buy a house, also for cash.
