5. Identify Hangups
Save time and money with my best-selling resources in Complete Change Your Finances Bundle.
Take a few minutes to think about when you overspend. Including the emotional aspect of spending money will help you identify reasons for why you overspend and will help you to better curb the impulse to buy.
When and why do you overspend? Is it a certain store? Or time of day? Are you distracted?
Are you trying to make yourself feel better in some way? Is it working? Are you trying to have the same lifestyle as someone else?
6. Plan more thoroughly
Did you forget to menu plan for the week, and now you are overspending at the grocery store? Did you underestimate how much the cost of that purchase would be? Did you forget to plan for a birthday or another special occasion?
The longer I worked my budget, the easier it became to foresee some of the additional costs. For example, Christmas comes every year in December, so I now put money aside all year long.
7. Write down your shopping list
All the items you need should be on a shopping list before you go to the store. Write down your best estimate of the cost. Stick to the list!
Bonus if you menu plan before making your shopping list.
8. You need smaller goals
Your goals are too big. You need to break down into manageable steps so you have small wins and the goals don’t seem so overwhelming. Instead of paying off all your debt, focus on paying off $1,000 at a time.
When you are overwhelmed, there is something inside which causes you to feel hopeless and then you won’t even bother trying to stick to a spending plan.
