I’m just the same as you. I want to live without debt and money stress. I want to make sure my family is provided for and that we can go on a vacation at the beach once in a while.
I want savings in the bank and the freedom to create new opportunities, without having to worry about money.
I only started figuring out this whole money thing because all things money and budgets were very stressful when I first got married.
I was the sole provider with an irregular income of $37,000. We had student loans, a car payment, and a credit card, plus I was putting my husband through school with cash.
Yet…. I wanted to have a better life.
To be honest, at the beginning, I just wanted to have a little extra in the bank, where I didn’t have to worry about having enough money for food at the end of the month.
However, as I dived deep into learning how to budget, I began to see how a budget was a simple tool that when used correctly is incredibly powerful to help me reach my money dreams.
I also started looking beyond having just enough in my account so that the checks wouldn’t bounce.
I saw that there is a huge list of possibilities when I manage my money well by getting rid of all payments and living on less than we make.
- Yes, my family’s needs will be taken care of.
- And there will be savings in the bank for emergencies.
- We’ll be able pay cash for the things we want.
But, that’s only part of it. We’ll be able to be outrageously generous and give to causes we’re passionate about - to make a huge impact on our community.
I’ll be able to see a need and do something about it, without feeling the stress and guilt because I don’t have any money to give.
My budget isn’t a neon billboard flashing with how badly I was failing with money, like I used to think.
I’ve learned to be successful, there has to be a system to budgeting. A plan to pay off debt and build your savings.
It’s a skill, I’ve learned and one I think you can learn as well.
Now, closing out my monthly budget is one of the most exciting times as I can see immediately how much progress has been made towards my money dreams.
I’m able to make a difference in how my family lives as well in the lives of others. All because I learned how to manage my money well.
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
