Christmas time can be a big expense for families, we all want it to be a joyous time, not a financial burden.
Our children are now working adults, and it is their children who bring so much excitement to Christmas.
1. Secret Santa
For the last few years, to ease the cost of gift buying, we have played secret Santa.
With the value set for gift buying, each adult only buys one gift. On the day, we all receive a surprise gift, and we are left guessing who bought it.
It creates a lot of fun for everyone and is cost effective. The children receive presents from everyone.
2. Lucky Dip
Another economical version of gift exchange is placing the gifts in a lucky dip, also known as a white elephant gift exchange. Typically, these methods are common in the workplace but are huge fun for a family gathering.
All the gifts are numbered and placed in a pile. Numbers are passed out to all participants. Whoever has #1, picks a gift to open.
The person who has #2 (and up) has the option to either pick another gift from the pile or stealing one from a previous number.
Even though these ideas are easier on the budget, with my husband and I both buying gifts for two adults and for the children we are spending in excess of $200, which is more than we would like to spend.
Then the idea came to me how to solve the gift buying burden and still experience the joy of giving.
Planned Buying is the perfect solution to the gift buying burden... Click the Read More button to go to the next page.
