25. Remove impulse items
Save time and money with my best-selling resources in Complete Change Your Finances Bundle.
Take a quick moment before you check out and look through your cart. Did any impulse items jump into your cart when you weren’t looking?
If they are not on your shopping list, remove them quickly from your cart and go pay. Go fast! And don’t give yourself a chance to change your mind!
26. Track your spending
Track where you spend your money, so you can know exactly where you are overspending. You can use a free budget software like, Every Dollar, or you can buy a software program like Quicken, which is what I use.
27. Stay out of the store
If you are always overspending in one specific store, ground yourself. For one month, you are not allowed in that store for any reason!
Send someone else, or go to a different store. You are not allowed to sneak in for even one thing!
28. Use accountability
Set up an accountability partner. Commit to sharing your budget, your goals for your money, and your spending. Report back to your partner on how well you followed a budget or if you overspent. Give them permission to ask and check up on you.
This is a little scary, but being accountable to answer to another person can be so motivating to stay on track!
29. Shop with someone
Have someone else go with you shopping, either on the phone or in person. Give them the list and how much you want to spend. Then, only get what they tell you, which is on the list you made. Do not put anything else into the cart. I don’t care if it’s such a great deal!
None of these 29 ways to help you slash overspending are very complicated, but they are effective!
Start with one or two ways to decrease your overspending and then add in a couple more. Before long, you will have a handle on your spending and you will be surprised at how well you can stick to your budget, because you have changed your behavior towards money.
Changing your behavior towards money will give you much more amazing results, than just slashing your overspending! You will be able to pay off your debt and build your savings all very quickly!
