Chonce’s questions and my answers
When did you decide you were going to be a blogger?
I first started blogging way back in 2002 when I left home to go to college in another state, as a means of keeping in touch with everyone back home. However, it was during 2012-2013, when I began wanting to broaden my circle of influence, beyond family and friends, in order to help others and have some lasting impact.
In 2014, I decided to write about what I know best, living debt free and on a budget. https://www.cookwithashoe.com/meet–me/you–cook–with–a–shoe/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>Cook With a Shoe was born, officially starting on January 9, 2015.
What is your favorite restaurant?
I like eating out as a special occasion and with company. There is a small little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, Golden Gate, in my neighborhood which always has great food, service, and is very quaint. I also like Arriba’s Mexican Grill. However, I must admit that I rather prefer my own cooking to restaurant food.
What T.V. shows are you embarrassed to admit you watch?
I don’t watch T.V anymore because I work too much. However, when I was growing up, I watched Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman all the time. I loved that show!
What is the biggest life lesson you learned this year?
The biggest life lesson I have learned this year is to reside in a state of broken dependence and be ok with it because God has everything under control. My life, and my finances, are right where God has purposed and there is a plan to use the struggles in my life for His glory. I can trust Him, even when things do not go according to my plan, and know that His plan for my life is so much better.
What’s your biggest financial regret/mistake?
My biggest financial regret is the fact that my husband and I did not take the time to really get on the same financial page early in our engagement and marriage. Yes, we always agreed on living on less than we made and getting rid of debt- the large picture, but sharing same philosophy behind day to day money details and working together on our finances has not come easily and is something we are still working on.
I would like to nominate the following bloggers for being a ray of sunshine in my life as I start my blogging career.
Kathleen from http://60–thenew40.com/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>60-thenew40
Debbie fromhttp://debbieinshape.com/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”> Debbie In Shape
Cathy from http://www.ourminifamily.com/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>Our Mini Family
My questions for you are…
- How did you get into blogging?
- Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
- What is your favorite blog to follow?
- What is the best, most productive habit you have?
- What is a goal you have for this year?
Thank you again for the nomination, Chonce! And thank you, my awesome readers, for being a little bit of Sunshine in my life.

Congratulations! You are starting to make the blogging virtual circuit.
(Are you embarrassed to say that you watch Dr. Quinn?)
Charissa says
Thank you! Yes, and I am completely humbled by where my blog is being noticed. As far as Dr. Quinn… well it’s good for a laugh.
Debbie says
Congratulations for the award and thank you really very much for giving it to Debbie in Shape.

Thank you, You are very much a bright spot of Sunshine in many people’s lives, Debbie! I can’t wait to read your acceptance.
Chonce says
Thanks for participating! I love your answer to the biggest life lesson you learned. The more that I cook at home, try out different recipes and perfect my skills, the more comfortable I am with eating at home and prefer my own meals to some restaurants these days as well.
Charissa says
Well, thank you for nominating me Chonce! Pretty soon you won’t be able to eat at restaurants, because you are such a good cook, keep up the good work cooking at home!

Congratulations, Charissa! I don’t want to think about being “Dr. Quinn” as being an embarrassing TV show; that’s where I got my daughter’s name! Lol! I never heard of “Michaela” before that show! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this in the Pinterest Game!
Charissa says
Thank you Wendy! As far as Dr. Quinn being embarrassing to admit that I watched it, that’s not really the case. However, it was one of the only shows I have watched so I put that down. I really don’t watch TV, and haven’t watched much my whole life. That’s fantastic how you picked your daughter’s name from the show, haha!
