4. Plan out your meals
Save time and money with my best-selling resources in Complete Change Your Finances Bundle.
Oh, planning meals is such an important way to cut grocery expenses and stress!!
This will help you avoid last minute trips to the grocery store, where always more items jump into the cart than the one you need, and use the food you have already purchased.
Buying a whole chicken and portioning out the meat gives me a huge boost in planning out my menu for the week.
I know I can get several meals out of one chicken, which takes care of half the week for my menu plan. I just have to decide which chicken recipes I want to cook and make my grocery list.

5. Cook once- eat twice!
I am such a huge fan of cooking once and eating twice!! It makes my life so much easier. And roasting a whole chicken will help you do just that.
For starters, you cook one chicken and you will be able to eat off it for several meals!
Why, yes please!
If the meat is already cooked, it is so much easier to throw dinner together in a short amount of time, don’t you agree?
Some of my favorite chicken recipes are ones that can easily make a double batch, like my chicken tortilla soup, and can provide plenty of leftovers for lunches.
Yes! Saving even more money and you don’t have to come up with what’s for lunch!!
6. Make your own broth
I absolutely love homemade broth!!
Making your own broth from the chicken bones is super easy to do, especially in the crock pot, and really helps you increase the savings on your grocery budget.
And homemade broth tastes so much better than what you can buy in the store!!
Once you have pulled all the meat off of the bones, put all the bones back into the crock pot, fill with water, and add a splash of apple cider vinegar. Cook on low for 24 hours and you have a ½ gallon of broth for free!!
My 6.5 qt programmable crock pot is a work horse in the kitchen, especially when making broth. I’ve easily made many gallons and gallons of delicious, homemade broth over the years. All for free!!
I store what will be used that week in the fridge, and the rest of the broth in the freezer.
